Renew Your Coverage

Health insurance coverage works on a yearly basis, so you need to renew it each year. For some, this can be automatic. For others, it may be time to enroll in a new health plan. In either case, knowing how to renew ensures your household stays insured.

Renew During Open Enrollment

If you have a health plan through Washington Healthplanfinder, you will need to renew it every year. You can do so during open enrollment. Open enrollment is the time you can shop, compare and choose health and dental plans. It begins November 1 of each year.

Before open enrollment, you will get a renewal message. This message will tell you how to confirm your coverage for the coming year. In some cases, your current plan is not available. If so, this message will include details about a similar plan we have picked for you.

You may be able to automatically renew your plan for the upcoming year. If you choose this option, your new plan details can be found in your account. If not, you will have to manually renew your plan during open enrollment.

Shop and Compare Plans

Renewing your coverage gives you a chance to make sure you have a plan that suits your needs. The Smart Planfinder tool makes shopping for a plan easy. It allows you to search by price, network and more, as well as compare up to 3 plans at once.

You may want to consider these things when comparing plans:

Cost

If your situation has changed, you may be eligible for new or different plans. Log into your account to shop for more options like our Cascade Care plans.

Coverage

Different plan options can also offer different benefit packages. Compare plans to find coverage that suits your needs. For example, you may want to choose a plan that covers a provider or clinic that you visit often.

Convenience

You can keep it simple by staying on your current plan for the upcoming year. Check if you meet these conditions:

  • You want to stay on your current plan.
  • Your plan or a similar plan is offered next year.
  • Your renewal letter says you can automatically renew your plan.

If you answer yes to all three, you are covered! Your plan will renew on January 1.

Pay Your Monthly Premium

You must pay your first premium after you have chosen a plan. Your insurance carrier will send you information about your coverage. Pay your premium every month to stay covered.
